Unexpected Krakow
Krakow is mainly associated with the Main Market Square, Cloth Hall, St. Mary's Church, and Wawel Castle. These are places definitely worth seeing, especially on your first visit.
But Krakow also has another side: quieter, less obvious, and often very interesting. If you've already visited the Old Town or want to see more than the classic tourist route, it's worth planning your day differently.
Hotel Lavender, located at 49 Długa Street, is a convenient base for both city center walks and exploring less obvious parts of Krakow.
Nowa Huta - a unique chapter in Krakow's
Nowa Huta is one of Krakow’s most distinctive districts. Its urban layout and architecture reveal a very different part of the city's history than the Old Town or Kazimierz.
The official Krakow city website describes Nowa Huta as a place worth seeing, including the Central Square, socialist realist architecture, recreational areas, and older traces of former villages later incorporated into the district.
It’s a good choice for those who want to see a less obvious side of Krakow—more urban, local, and diverse.
Podgórze - the quieter side of the city
Podgórze is a good spot for walks if you want to go beyond the city center. You can combine it with a visit to the Ghetto Heroes Square, a walk to Bernatek footbridge, or a stroll around Zabłocie.
This Krakow area has its own rhythm, proving the city goes beyond the Main Market Square.
Zabłocie - contemporary Krakow
Zabłocie is an example of Krakow’s recent changes. Once more industrial, it now combines museums, cafes, cultural spaces, and modern buildings.
It’s a good direction if you want to see a more contemporary side or combine a walk with a museum visit.
How to plan an unusual day in Krakow?
It’s best not to try to see everything at once. A good plan is to pick one part of the city and explore it at your own pace.
You can plan:
- a morning in the Old Town,
- an afternoon in Podgórze or Zabłocie,
- a separate day for Nowa Huta,
- Return to the center for dinner or a
Staying in the center makes it easier to plan flexibly.
